United Bamboo x Converse

United Bamboo for Converse 1HUND(RED) Artists Chuck Taylor All Star Shoe

Ten percent of the net wholesale price of the shoe will go to The Global Fund help eliminate AIDS in Africa, giving consumers an opportunity to become agents of change and offering a way to turn design into power.

A first time collaboration for both brands, United Bamboo designer Thuy Pham chose to create a clean, low-profile version of the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star. With a circular quilted pattern inspired by Mid Century Modern furniture, Thuy says he wanted it to have a New York style with loose references to tennis, his favorite sport. He says “From the beginning I wanted to use Chuck Taylor high-tops because it’s my favorite Converse. I’ve had more than twenty pairs now. I’ve worn them since high school.”

Under the direction of Miho Aoki and Thuy Pham, United Bamboo has helped turn the notion of preppy on its head, all while grounded in the tradition of refined and classic American sportswear. A natural choice for a Converse collaboration, United Bamboo is a label that has established itself as a pioneer in design and creative collaboration with downtown artists, curators and musicians. Likewise, Converse has a long history of being on the feet of artists, musicians and designers everywhere who push boundaries.

The United Bamboo for Converse 1HUND(RED) Artists Chuck Taylor All Star shoe is available in a white/red nylon and leather version. The shoe is available in sizes 7 – 12.
